The HSE University is launching online master's programmes in highly sought fields of study in IT, management, economics and finance.

What can be changed in an online course? How can you modify your materials? What changes are obligatory? These and other important questions are answered in the published regulations regarding modifications made by MOOC authors and assistants to online courses, which are available on the National Open Education Platform and Coursera.

HSE University online courses are available on Coursera since December 23. ‘First Steps in Linear Algebra for Machine Learning’ has become the hundredth course to be offered by HSE University.

On February 24, 2014, HSE launched its first course on the Coursera online education platform. Along with St. Petersburg State University and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, HSE was one of the first Russian universities to host a course on the platform. Now HSE ranks among the top ten universities with the highest number of courses available on the platform, offering 91 courses which have garnered 1.6 million subscriptions.

Coursera launched Data Science Academy, a guide to the world of Data Science with a collection of the best online courses from leading companies and universities. The online specialisation from HSE Advanced Machine Learning is among the current courses of the Academy.

Large online courses will become even more in-demand since the quality and accessibility of education is rising. They will not, however, replace traditional in-person interactions between student and teacher. By relying effectively on digital technologies, universities can ensure a new level of education quality, which, in turn, can meet the challenges of today’s economy. Discussions of online education, at its current stage of development, should be focused not so much on technological solutions, but rather on ecosystems, which encompass students, universities, corporations, states and tech firms, where related human experiences and meanings are of extreme importance. This was the conclusion of participants in the eSTARS 2018 international academic conference on the present and future of online education. HSE and the online learning platform Coursera teamed up to host the event in Moscow on December 5-6.

Tord Hovik, Senior Consultant of the eLearning Lab at OsloMet University (formerly University College of Oslo and Akershus, Norway), visited HSE Online office on September 21.

HSE has opened its own video studio named ‘OneButton’, launched as part of university’s active development of additional education and blended learning. The new studio helps lecturers to record content for local online courses on their own, without the help of cameramen and editors.
