Testimonials from our alumni about their experiences studying at HSE Online

Mikhail Meshkov
Program graduate
I’m a doctor by training and work in the field of digital transformation and healthcare management. As I regularly encounter analytical challenges, I realized I had reached a limit in my mathematical knowledge, so I decided to pursue a master’s degree.

Data analysis is something that has inspired me for a long time, alongside organizational psychology. The idea of combining these two passions had been brewing for several years.

I teach and conduct research at the Panamerican University in Mexico, and I am also a student in an online master’s program.

I’m a doctor by training and work in the field of digital transformation and healthcare management. As I regularly encounter analytical challenges, I r ealized I had reached a limit in my mathematical knowledge, so I decided to pursue a master’s degree in mathematics to expand my skills. That’s how I ended up here.

My choice of HSE was no accident, as many of my colleagues and friends studied here. I chose HSE’s online format because it allowed me to balance my studies with my full-time job, which I’ve been able to do successfully. The online learning experience is exceptionally well-organized as there is both a user-friendly online platform and a student app. I was particularly pleased with the library, where, if you wish, you can study 24/7 if you’re in Moscow, or access a wealth of online resources and work remotely.

I didn’t choose the "Data Analytics and Social Statistics" program by chance and applied only to this program. The reason is my interest in the areas covered in the curriculum, namely applied statistics, network analysis, and computational social sciences. The program regularly hosts webinars for auditors from the International Laboratory for Applied Network Analysis, where you can learn about the organization of academic and research activities and determine if it’s a good fit for you.

When choosing a master’s program, you are, in part, choosing the community and academic environment in which you will spend at least two years, or even longer. I’m glad I chose HSE and this program.

Data analysis is something that has inspired me for a long time, alongside organizational psychology. The idea of combining these two passions had been brewing for several years, and the master’s program turned out to be the missing piece of the puzzle. I had no doubts before applying as I immediately realized that this was exactly what I needed, and I wasn’t wrong in my choice. The program is intensive, and, importantly, it offers the opportunity to develop in different directions without limiting oneself to just one area.

The online format didn’t scare me. Even though I was used to in-person classes, the ability to study at my own pace and balance work, projects, and personal interests was a huge plus. The materials are always at my fingertips and very detailed, and I can review class recordings. The program is so intensive and dynamic that it’s very hard to take in everything it offers. And that’s the beauty of it. Learning isn’t easy — it's an inspiring challenge. This is a program for the passionate and driven.

I especially appreciate the instructors' approach since they’re always ready to help, support, and offer guidance, and their course materials are top-notch. Thanks to the program, I’ve mastered new tools and approaches and discovered fresh ideas that I’m already applying in my projects.

A huge thank you to the academic director and the team for their attention to every student and for creating such an inspiring atmosphere. Without a doubt, I would choose this program again.

Enrique Núñez
Program graduate
I teach and conduct research at the Panamerican University in Mexico, and I am also a student in an online master’s program.

The program is based on a solid academic foundation and a comprehensive approach that goes beyond mere transmission of theoretical concepts. It harmoniously combines statistical theory, practical skills, and network analysis methods that meet the demands of the modern academic and professional market. The online learning format turned out to be particularly convenient as it provides constant access to materials and allows for reviewing class recordings. This is very important for those who, like me, combine studying with work and live in a different time zone, but still do not want to lose the pace of learning and the depth of mastering the material.

The main motivation for enrolling was to study network analysis. However, I can say that the program is not limited to teaching how to work with specialized software — it provides a methodological understanding that allows you to grasp the logic of analysis and apply it in practice.

The training exceeded expectations: the program covers a wide range of disciplines, from statistics and probability theory to machine learning, linear models, multivariate analysis, and structural equations, while consistently revealing the internal logic of each of these methodologies. Here, they don’t just provide technical skills, but also foster a comprehensive understanding of the conceptual foundations of statistical methods and network analysis. Such a comprehensive approach helped me develop critical and flexible thinking, and learn to apply the acquired skills to real research tasks.

The program "Data Analytics and Social Statistics" is quite demanding. The workload requires serious engagement and the ability to manage time effectively; however, this intensity fully corresponds to the level of training that students receive. In my opinion, it is precisely this academic rigor that is one of the program’s strengths, which ensures a deep immersion in the material and high-quality preparation for solving complex professional tasks.

I would like to extend my thanks to the teaching staff. Each professor is a recognized expert in their field, genuinely interested in the success of their students. The instructors provide detailed consultations, share additional materials, and help students see the studied methods in a broader, global context, which significantly facilitates their practical application.
